What procurement issues could play a role?
Procurement can be an influential driver in supply chains. But where do the societal risks and opportunities for improvement lie? What about a company’s sphere of influence, due diligence and responsibility? And what costs are involved? Is imposing sustainability requirements on suppliers necessary for some products or should we enter into dialog with them in order to make improvements via SP action plans, for example? And there is also the question of which CSR topics and subject areas are expected to be addressed. And who are the stakeholders? Nothing is quite as de-motivating as watching an intriguing, potentially successful sustainable procurement plan end up in the trash bin due to its complexity, a lack of support or overly high costs. This is disappointing for everyone: customers, shareholders, directors, CSR managers, budget holders, buyers and suppliers. ISO 20400 offers tools to help deal with these issues.
